Maths Test For 6-8 Year Olds

Maths Test For 6-8 Year Olds is different from other basic number tests. Not only does it check all the important number concepts at their earliest level, it also helps your child improve, according to his or her test results.

It’s largely a practical test, using common household materials you have to hand, such as pegs or spoons. You just ask your child to show you certain situations using these materials. It’s easy to understand and fun to do!

Why do so many children have difficulty with maths?

Young children are often rushed on to abstract maths problems well before they’re ready…and this can lead to long-term difficulties. Parents worldwide search for help for this very reason. A child needs to know the principles of counting, how number patterns work and how to represent ‘real-life’ situations mathematically…as well as a variety of calculation methods using manipulatives…before being presented with abstract calculation problems in addition, subtraction, multiplication or division.

Far more children are missing out on these vital maths experiences at a much earlier stage than their parents – or teachers – realise. Trying to deal with such huge leaps in understanding can not only lead to a child becoming incredibly overwhelmed and upset, it is can contribute to a whole host of long-term maths difficulties.

Until his or her issues are addressed, a child is likely to continue struggling with maths. The sooner the problems are found, the sooner the child will be on the path to success.

My daughter is at a state primary school in the UK. She started Year 1 confident in most subjects except Maths. She was assessed in November and scored a 1c which is pretty much the bottom of the class. Naturally I was concerned as she did not appear to have any learning difficulties and I felt that just giving her more books/computer work at home would not get to the root of the problem. The school was also unsure how to help.

Maths Test For 6-8 Year Olds was exactly what I was looking for. The test clearly demonstrated where she was getting confused and where her strengths were, and we spent quite a bit of time going over and over the basics. In less than two months her understanding and her confidence have sky-rocketed. She was reassessed in February and scored a 2b which is well above average. It’s almost as if her Maths brain has been switched on and now she understands how basic Maths works. Maths is so important and I really recommend you give this test a go and help your child succeed.

Can the test also help older children?

Yes, absolutely. If your 9 or 10-year old has been struggling with maths for years, it’s likely they have missed out on developing some really early mathematical understandings. This test can help long-term ‘strugglers’ by highlighting the basic problems and showing you how to help them go forward at last.

It’s extremely important to remember that NO child should ever be written off as a lost cause. They simply need a little extra help to get where they need to be, and this e-book is the perfect teaching tool when it comes to helping your child.

Will it also help with word problems?

In the early stages of maths, when children are still working on addition and subtraction problems with very small numbers, they will often be great at calculating the answer in their heads, but totally unable to represent the problem mathematically. This is because children usually have more trouble translating a ‘real life’ situation or word problem into a mathematical format so that the answer can be calculated (i.e. using the right numbers and signs), than they have in doing the actual calculation.

It is really important to work on this, because later, when the words in the problem don’t clearly indicate what to do, or the size of the numbers in the problem doesn’t give any clue as to what to do with them, children can get very confused.
